QUICKUPSCALE

ASEPRITE · EXPORT & PNG WORKFLOW

Upscale Aseprite pixel art without blur.

In Aseprite, use Export As → Resize to make a larger copy while keeping your editable source at its original size. Already have an exported PNG? Enlarge it at 2×, 4× or 8× in the browser tool below.

or drop it here, or paste with Ctrl/⌘ + V

PNG, JPEG, WebP or GIF · up to 10 MB · never uploaded

Use a lossless PNG for clean pixel art. JPEG and lossy WebP artifacts are preserved. GIF uses its first frame only. Output is a static PNG.

Original CC0 sprite sheet · 64×32 px · 16×16 px frames.

Sprite Sheet Grid & Slice Calculator

Calculations use your uploaded image and the latest successfully generated PNG.

Uniform grids only. Padding and spacing are not supported; packed atlases and animation metadata are not read. Enter each original frame’s size.

Tile Presets

New PPU = original PPU × actual factor. This keeps the same size in Unity world units.

Export at 400% directly from Aseprite

  1. Save your editable artwork as an .aseprite file.
  2. In Aseprite 1.3, choose File > Export > Export As.
  3. Set Resize to 400% for a 4× copy, or 200% / 800% for 2× / 8×.
  4. Choose PNG for a still image or a frame sequence, or GIF when you need an animated export.

This changes the export size without resizing the editable source. Aseprite documents this in Automatic Resize on Export. Use Sprite > Sprite Size only when you intend to change the working sprite's dimensions.

For a repeatable command-line workflow, follow the native PNG batch export guide or export every composited GIF frame as PNG. Those executed examples use Aseprite 1.1.7-dev and show its hidden-RGB and zero-delay limits; they do not establish current desktop-version behavior.

When the browser tool is useful

Use QuickUpscale when a collaborator sends you an exported PNG, you only have the flattened sheet, or you are working on a device without Aseprite. It uses nearest-neighbor enlargement locally and downloads a static PNG. It does not add missing details or recreate editable layers.

Direct .aseprite files are not supported. Export a PNG first. An animated GIF input contributes only its first frame here, so keep animated exports in Aseprite. The browser output also does not retain frame timing, tags, pivots or Aseprite's JSON metadata.

Enlarge an exported sprite sheet

Export your animation as a PNG sheet using File > Export > Export Sprite Sheet and retain any JSON metadata your game needs. See the Aseprite sprite-sheet guide. For a regular grid, whole-number enlargement multiplies cell dimensions while preserving row, column and frame counts. Update any external frame rectangles, offsets and padding to match the enlarged image.

Try the original 64×32 sheet: four columns, two rows and eight 16×16 cells. At 4×, the 256×128 output still has eight cells, each 64×64. Compare the actual nearest-neighbor and bilinear outputs before using your own file.

Check the destination's display settings

A larger export can help when a site displays a small sprite using smoothing, but sites may resize or recompress it again. Check the published result. In a game engine, start with native filtering and viewport or camera settings; pre-enlargement does not prevent runtime jitter or atlas bleeding.

Open the Sprite Sheet Upscaler for upload and grid calculations, read the nearest-neighbor tutorial, or check the settings for Godot and Unity.

? QUESTIONS

Why does Aseprite pixel art look blurry when shared online?
A sharing site or viewer may resize a small sprite with smoothing. Exporting at a useful integer scale can help, but the final result depends on the site's display size and image processing.
How do I export pixel art in Aseprite at 400% without blur?
Use File > Export > Export As and set Resize to 400% to export a larger PNG without resizing your working sprite. Keep the original .aseprite source. For the browser tool, export a PNG first.
Can I upscale an entire Aseprite sprite sheet with QuickUpscale?
Yes, export a PNG sprite sheet first. Scale regular cell dimensions, spacing and margins by 2×, 4× or 8×. Runtime bleeding still depends on your engine's sampling and padding. Direct .aseprite files are unsupported; GIF input uses only its first frame.
Are my unreleased Aseprite files uploaded to any server?
No. Exported images are processed locally in your browser. The tool does not accept .aseprite project files or upload your artwork.
